Solana Co-Founder Toly Backs SGP-003 Amid App Builders' Pushback
Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana and known as Toly, has endorsed SGP-003, a proposal to rewire how the network charges for transactions. The proposal introduces a fixed inclusion fee of 2,500 lamports for block leaders alongside a variable resource fee tied to compute units.
Toly believes this new fee structure will keep SOL burn rates roughly in line with current levels. A portion of the restructured fees would be burned, reducing supply pressure on SOL over time.
App builders like BlueShift, Firedancer Development, and Hylo have signaled support for SGP-003, but critics argue it's 'yolo economics,' fearing unpredictable cost escalation. DeFi entities have voiced opposition due to timing concerns, citing that the ecosystem is still maturing and that imposing a new fee regime now could discourage experimentation.
