Solana Consolidates Amid Alpenglow Upgrades and US-Iran Talks
Solana's price has been consolidating around the $120 level as the market waits for key events to unfold. One of those events is the mainnet activation of Alpenglow, a major consensus upgrade that targets a reduction in finality from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds. The rollout is occurring in phases, and successful testing on the testnet will strengthen the upgrade narrative.
The upgrade aims to improve Solana's scalability and efficiency, but its success depends on the resolution of bugs and issues discovered during testing. Alpenglow went live on Solana's public testnet on September 24 and devnet on September 25.
On the macro side, renewed optimism around US-Iran talks has eased tensions in the region. The two sides are engaged in negotiations to amend Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days under certain conditions. Fed's Williams said that he didn't see any urgency after the September hike and that one further hike was likely if the economy performed as expected.
His dovish comments triggered a repricing, with odds for a rate hike in October falling from 70% to 45%. A breakthrough in US-Iran talks will be positive for Solana in the short-term as aggressive Fed rate hike bets will likely get pared back. However, a negative outcome or prolonged stalemate will continue to keep a lid on risk sentiment and the crypto market.
