Solana Developers Shut Down Alpenglow Launch Rumors

The Solana developers have squashed rumors that Alpenglow, their most ambitious consensus upgrade, would activate on mainnet on September 28. This news comes after a tweet from Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, who replied to the rumors with a single word: 'decel.'

Roger Wattenhofer, head of research at Anza, was more explicit in his denial. Through X, he asked why a protocol that had been in public testing for only a few days would be activated and stated: 'No Alpenrush.'

The origin of the misunderstanding appears to trace back to the Agave v4.3 release schedule, which set September 28 as the date on which the mainnet would resume feature activation. However, that document never mentions Alpenglow.

The market showed little reaction to the news, with SOL trading at $119.85, down 0.36% in 24 hours. This suggests that few traders had factored a potential Alpenglow launch into their positions.
