Solana DEX Shatters NYSE Trade Record with Over 208 Million Trades in a Week
The Solana Decentralized Exchange (DEX) has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in terms of individual trades in a single week. According to data from Blockworks Research, which was tracked by flipthe.market, Solana's DEX recorded approximately 208 million spot trades between September 14 and 20, 2026. In contrast, the NYSE reported around 189 million trades during the same period.
However, it is essential to note that a trade on a Solana DEX and a trade on the NYSE are economically different, and this distinction affects whether the record should concern an investor. The tracker measured the number of trades, not the amount of money exchanged. While both sides of the survey agree on the Solana figure, they differ on the comparison value and the dating.
The design of a DEX allows for high trade counts due to its decentralized nature. A program on a blockchain settles swaps directly between two wallets without holding user funds or matching orders. This leads to numerous very small trades, as network fees are minimal, and no brokerage account is required.
A significant portion of Solana's trades, roughly 57%, come from memecoin platforms. These platforms facilitate micro purchases of freshly minted tokens, often triggered by automated programs. In contrast, the NYSE typically sees larger equity orders.
