Solana Extends Lead in Spot DEX Volume with Record Q3 Performance
Solana has extended its lead as the top blockchain for spot decentralized exchange (DEX) volume, maintaining its streak for the fifth consecutive quarter. In Q3 2026, Solana's spot DEX volume reached $197 billion, a 16.6% increase from Q2.
The majority of this growth came in September, with onchain spot DEX volume totaling around $184 billion according to Solana Compass. However, DefiLlama reported a significantly lower figure of approximately $78 billion, highlighting the importance of considering different reporting methodologies when analyzing data.
The high volume was driven by several key factors, including high-frequency memecoin trading, stablecoin swaps, and an expanding range of tokenized assets. Several protocols, such as PumpSwap, Orca, and Raydium, played a significant role in supporting Solana's trading activity during the quarter.
The growth on Solana is notable, particularly given that SOL trading volumes on centralized exchanges declined despite the increase in onchain activity. This trend has implications for traders and the broader market, as it could shift the economics of where fees and liquidity accumulate over time.
