Solana Foundation Launches Open-Source DvP Framework for Institutional Trades
The Solana Foundation has unveiled an open-source settlement framework called Solana DvP, designed to streamline delivery-versus-payment (DvP) trades for banks and financial institutions on the Solana blockchain. The framework, released under the MIT license, offers a reusable API that enables atomic settlements between counterparties, ensuring that asset and cash transfers occur simultaneously or not at all. This approach aims to replace custom smart contracts with a standardized solution across the Solana ecosystem.
J.P. Morgan contributed advisory input during the design phase, leveraging its expertise in institutional settlement practices. However, the bank clarified that its involvement was consultative and did not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of the program's performance. Catherine Gu, head of product for digital assets at the Solana Foundation, emphasized that atomic settlement eliminates counterparty risk, providing institutions with a single, open standard for rapid settlements.
Solana DvP supports both SPL Token and the newer Token-2022 standard, including features like permanent delegate, pausable tokens, and transfer hooks. The framework is flexible, allowing institutions to integrate it into their existing workflows with any settlement agent, such as banks, custodians, or exchanges. Security has been addressed through external audits, and the foundation stated that the program is ready for use with real funds. Privacy features are planned for future updates.
The launch aligns with Solana's broader efforts to attract traditional finance participants. BlackRock recently launched a tokenized money market fund on Solana, and Kraken offers tokenized U.S. stocks through its xStocks product. By providing an open-source DvP standard, the Solana Foundation aims to foster adoption through network effects rather than proprietary solutions, positioning Solana as a leading venue for tokenized assets.
