Solana Hits 30 Months of Uninterrupted Uptime

Solana's network has achieved an impressive milestone by maintaining 100% uptime for 30 consecutive months, a feat that showcases its resilience and reliability. Since February 2024, the blockchain has processed record transaction volumes without any full-cluster outages, demonstrating its ability to handle stress.

Initially, Solana faced issues with reliability between its launch in 2020 and early 2024, including multiple outages and a nearly five-hour incident in February 2024 due to validator issues. However, since then, the network has operated seamlessly, even as it processes more daily transactions than all other major blockchains combined.

The recent routing failure at TeraSwitch, its largest infrastructure provider, knocked 29% of the network's stake offline but did not interrupt operations. This incident highlighted Solana's redundancy and its efforts to reduce stake concentration at TeraSwitch from 38% to below 30% over the past year.

Solana's engineers are leveraging this reliability to push the network's technical limits, with recent upgrades including reducing slot times to 300 milliseconds and cutting storage costs by 90%. The upcoming Alpenglow upgrade aims to reduce finality to 150 milliseconds.
