Solana Introduces Institutional Settlement Standard with J.P. Morgan Input
The Solana Foundation has introduced Solana DvP, an open-source escrow program designed to streamline institutional trade settlements on the blockchain. The tool provides a standardized API for delivery-versus-payment (DvP) settlement, ensuring that asset transfers and payments occur simultaneously or not at all. Released under the MIT license, Solana DvP aims to replace the traditional multi-day clearinghouse process with a single atomic transaction, significantly reducing counterparty risk.
J.P. Morgan contributed to the program's development, offering insights on institutional settlement practices. Catherine Gu, the foundation's head of product for digital assets, emphasized that atomic settlement removes the inherent risks of traditional finance, providing institutions with finality in seconds rather than days. Rhodel D'souza, J.P. Morgan's head of markets digital assets, highlighted the importance of a shared, open standard for atomic DvP as foundational for institutional market participants.
Solana DvP supports SPL Token and Token-2022, including features like permanent delegate, pausable tokens, and transfer hooks, all of which are crucial for regulated issuers. The program has undergone external security audits and plans to incorporate privacy features to keep settlements confidential. This launch aligns with Solana's growing appeal among institutions investing in tokenized real-world assets, including BlackRock's tokenized money market fund and Kraken's tokenized U.S. stocks.
