Solana Introduces Tool for Instant Institutional Tokenized Trades
Solana has introduced a new open-source software tool designed to streamline institutional trades involving tokenized assets. The program, called Solana DvP, enables delivery-versus-payment (DvP) settlement, allowing both the asset and payment to settle simultaneously in seconds, provided they already exist on the Solana blockchain. This innovation addresses a key challenge in traditional markets where settlement risk arises due to the need for one party to move first.
The Solana Foundation unveiled Solana DvP on October 6, 2026, as an escrow program that places both sides of a trade into escrow and exchanges them through a single transaction. The process ensures that either both transfers complete or neither does, a concept known as atomic settlement. Catherine Gu, Head of Product for Digital Assets at the Solana Foundation, described the program as providing 'one open standard across the Solana ecosystem' with finality in seconds rather than days.
The program supports SPL Token and Token-2022 assets, including features for issuers needing transfer and compliance controls. JPMorgan contributed settlement expertise during the program's development but did not commit to using it. The tool's effectiveness depends on both sides of the trade being tokens on Solana, as conventional bank accounts would require separate settlement processes.
While the program has been externally audited and can be used with real funds, its success will ultimately depend on regular use by institutions. The Solana Foundation is seeking design partners ahead of a wider production rollout, with the next meaningful proof coming from recurring trades involving tokenized assets, on-chain payments, and a clearly defined settlement authority.
