Solana Launches Faster Institutional Trade Settlement with JPMorgan's Input
Solana Foundation has launched Solana DvP, an open-source program designed to streamline institutional trade settlements on the blockchain. The program enables both sides of a trade to settle simultaneously in seconds, a stark contrast to the traditional one-to-two-day process. JPMorgan played an advisory role, providing insights on settlement requirements during development. The program is built under the MIT open-source license, eliminating the need for custom smart contracts and offering a standardized approach.
The program, which uses the delivery-versus-payment (DvP) method, ensures that asset transfers and payments occur together, reducing counterparty risk. Unlike traditional markets that rely on intermediaries, Solana DvP completes transactions in a single step. It also supports regulated token standards, including pausable tokens and transfer hooks for compliance purposes.
JPMorgan's involvement was primarily advisory, drawing from its extensive experience in settlement processes. The bank's digital assets team contributed expertise on deadlines, escrow isolation, and token features required by regulated issuers. Solana DvP stands out by operating on public infrastructure, allowing any two counterparties to use it with their choice of settlement agent.
The program has already passed external security audits and is ready for real-fund transactions. Future updates will include privacy features to keep trade details confidential while maintaining public infrastructure. The Solana Foundation is now seeking design partners and early participants ahead of a broader rollout.
