Solana Leads x402 Transactions with Surge in Blockchain-Based Payments
Solana has emerged as the leading network for x402 transactions in August, surpassing Base in daily activity. The surge in activity is part of a broader effort to enable software to pay for digital services without manual intervention.
The x402 protocol allows agents to make payments directly to APIs and other resources, eliminating the need for human interaction. Solana's ecosystem has been at the forefront of this development, with BlockRun settling 5.4 million agentic payments on the network through PayAI in just seven days. Additionally, Solana reported that its x402 endpoints can accept USDC.
The growth in x402 activity is driven by companies testing blockchain-based payments for software at increasing volumes. However, researchers have raised questions about how transaction activity should be measured and whether it represents independent economic activity.
