Solana Mainnet Block Compute Limit Doubles to 100 Million CUs

Solana's mainnet has just gotten a significant boost in processing power. The network's per-block compute limit is increasing by 66% to 100 million Compute Units (CUs), which will take effect within 24 hours at the start of Epoch 1009.

This upgrade means that each block can process more transactions, complex smart contract calls, and overall activity. It's worth noting that this is the second major compute limit increase in less than a week, following a previous increase from 50 million to 60 million CUs on July 23, 2025.

The author of the upgrade, Lucas Bruder from Jito Labs, developed SIMD-0286 back in May 2025. Jito is a prominent infrastructure player in the Solana ecosystem and well-known for its MEV-focused validator client.

While this upgrade widens the 'highway' for Solana's network activity, it also introduces potential trade-offs. Higher compute limits require more resources to process and validate each block, which could impact validators running on lower-end hardware.

The Solana community will need to monitor validator performance metrics closely in the days following activation. Any instability or centralization pressure could be a risk for investors, as increased execution times might hinder the network's famously fast block production.
