Solana Memecoin Trading Hits Seven-Month High Amid Speculative Frenzy

Memecoin trading on Solana has surged to its highest level in seven months, driven by viral tokens and platforms built for speculative activity.

The weekly spot DEX volume on Solana reached $5.2 billion in mid-August, a nearly threefold increase from the $1.8 billion seen just under three months prior in late May.

Memecoins accounted for 29% of all spot DEX volume on Solana during the week of July 20-26, the highest share since August 2025, and briefly spiked to 42% on certain days.

The catalyst for this revival appears to be ANSEM, a memecoin that surged approximately 299% in a single week during July. Platforms like Pump.fun and its successor PumpSwap have been instrumental in reactivating wallets that had gone quiet during the spring lull.

Despite this explosion in trading activity, SOL itself has remained largely unmoved, trading around $96, suggesting that the current volume surge is driven primarily by speculation within the memecoin layer rather than fresh capital flowing into the Solana ecosystem.
