Solana Network Activity Surges Amid Meme Token Frenzy
Solana's network activity has reached a new peak in weekly non-voting transactions, reaching 1.3 billion in the previous week. This surge is attributed to meme token activity, which has been on the rise since August. The increased activity is also reflected in the daily burn rate of Solana, which has hit a multi-year high of 1.53% as of August 23.
The main drivers behind this growth are popular apps on the Solana network, which have achieved over $10 million in daily app-based fees and over $250 million in monthly app revenues. Most of these revenues go towards priority fees.
One of the key factors contributing to this increase is the FOMO app, a platform that allows users to copy-trade influencers and engage with meme token launches. This has led to increased mainstream adoption and a boost in Solana's use case.
Solana is also preparing for several significant changes at the protocol level, including the formalization of governance rules through its constitution. This will give individual users more rights and prevent governance attacks by influential actors. The next big decision being voted on is the cutting of SOL emissions over the coming six years, which may lead to faster disinflation and a higher burn rate.
