Solana Outage Highlights Infrastructure Vulnerabilities

Solana's network suffered an outage that highlighted its vulnerability to infrastructure issues. A routing failure caused 90 validators, representing 28.83% of staked SOL, to go offline for about 33 minutes. This left only a small buffer before the crucial 33.34% finality threshold was reached.

Despite this setback, transactions continued to finalize, showing that consensus remained functional despite losing nearly a third of participating stakes. The near-halt exposed correlated infrastructure risk and emphasized the importance of validator hosting diversity and automatic failover in preventing broader disruptions.

The Solana network's ability to retain enough voting power to confirm transactions was put to the test. Despite 28.83% of the stake going offline, another 71.17% remained active, keeping participation above the two-thirds requirement.
