Solana Payment Channels Process 1M Payments Per Second
Solana's payment channels are designed to handle massive volumes of transactions per second. According to the Solana Foundation, over one million payments per second can be processed through a proxy using 100,000 unique wallets.
The system allows agents to spend against a prepaid ceiling through signed messages, reducing the need for separate blockchain transactions for every delivery.
A customer funds the channel, while the merchant supplies the service. The operator runs the payment process and finances the interval between authorization and collection.
However, there is a risk that the operator may go silent in between, leaving the customer without access to their remaining deposit. To mitigate this risk, the Solana Foundation has introduced a refund mechanism that allows customers to recover their deposits if the operator is unresponsive.
