Solana Poised to Overtake Ethereum as Default Smart Contract Platform
Kyle Samani, co-founder of Multicoin Capital, predicts that Solana could overtake Ethereum as the go-to platform for building smart contracts. He argues that companies will default to building on Solana due to its operational ease and robust functionality.
Samani believes that Ethereum's value accrual is 'questionable' and that Ether's largest role today is tied to stablecoins and collateralized borrowing. This critique is paired with his prediction that companies will pivot toward Solana, which he expects to become the default smart contract platform for more firms during the current market cycle.
The recent market performance shows that both ETH and SOL have moved higher in similar percentage ranges over the past month, but Solana's outperformance was slightly stronger. On a longer window, SOL has had larger relative losses compared to ETH, but has also shown stronger recent gains. Additionally, Solana has surpassed Ethereum in weekly and monthly fees, according to DefiLlama fee data.
