Solana has initiated Transaction V1 on its testnet to prepare for its launch on September 9. This upgrade allows for the processing of multi-step operations in one single atomic transaction, increasing efficiency and reducing costs. The maximum size of a Solana serialized transaction has increased from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes.

The increase in space will enable the implementation of zero-knowledge proofs, large multisig transactions, and various signature schemes that were previously unachievable within one transaction. BLS signature schemes, confidential transactions, and multisig setups will benefit from this upgrade.

Developers had previously bypassed Solana's old size limit by using Jito bundles, but V1 transactions offer a more efficient solution with atomicity at the protocol level. This simplifies operations for DeFi developers, enabling them to establish swap routes, proofs, and other multistep transactions in a single transaction.
