Solana Routed to Disaster: 29% of Staked Tokens at Risk
A routing fault at hosting provider Teraswitch caused a near-disaster for Solana on Wednesday morning, as nearly 29% of staked SOL went delinquent. The issue left the network just shy of losing finality, which occurs when more than 33.34% of staked SOL is offline.
According to Marinade Finance, a staking protocol that analyzed the outage, around 90 validators were affected, resulting in a combined loss of 333 SOL in rewards.
The problem was caused by a misconfigured route at one of Teraswitch's sites, which led edge routers to prefer an invalid default route over their own. This resulted in twelve sites across London, Amsterdam, Dublin, Frankfurt, Singapore, and Tokyo being left without valid routes to forward traffic.
