Solana Seeks Lightning-Fast Transaction Finality with Alpenglow Upgrade
Solana is undertaking a major network upgrade aimed at significantly reducing transaction finality to just 0.15 seconds from its current 13-second timeframe.
The Alpenglow upgrade, developed by Anza, involves replacing the existing TowerBFT consensus system with a new voting protocol called Votor, which enables validators to exchange votes directly and reach consensus in one or two rounds.
This upgrade is expected to improve various aspects of the Solana network, including deposit processing at crypto exchanges, asset transfers between blockchains, and payment service speeds.
The Alpenglow testnet rollout has been pushed back from its initial timeline, with validators now required to use Agave 4.3 software for a stable transition to the new consensus system.
