Solana Speeds Up Block Production by 17% with Network Optimizations
Solana has made significant improvements to its network, increasing block production speed by approximately 17%. The blockchain's target slot time has been reduced from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, allowing for faster transaction updates and improved coordination. Validators now control transaction ordering for one second instead of 1.2 seconds, and Solana epochs have shortened from roughly 36 hours to 30 hours.
While a future target of 200 milliseconds is under consideration, it has not yet been scheduled for mainnet. These changes aim to provide fresher transaction updates more frequently without increasing overall transaction throughput. The increased speed will benefit wallets, exchanges, and trading platforms that rely on Solana's network.
