Solana Speeds Up Network Clock by 17%

Solana has made its network clock run about 17% faster by reducing its target slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds. This change does not increase the overall processing capacity of the network, as each slot now carries proportionally less work.

The update targets four slots every second instead of the previous 3.3, and validators will still control transaction ordering for about one second before another validator takes over.

This new setting can help wallets, exchanges, oracles, and trading platforms receive fresher network data, as automated market makers may see less delay between a submitted Solana transaction and its arrival on the network.
