Solana Summit: SEC Chair Pushes for Crypto Integration
SEC Chair Paul Atkins emphasized the importance of preserving US leadership in financial innovation at the Solana Summit on September 14. He highlighted the need to integrate cryptocurrency into broader discussions on modernizing capital markets.
The speech, however, did not signal a regulatory shift. According to Atkins, his remarks represent 'regulatory direction and policy preferences, not legally binding final rules.'
The inclusion of public blockchains in discussions on securities trading, settlement, and tokenization marks a significant shift for Solana.
Despite the progress made, the industry still faces challenges related to custody, market manipulation, disclosure requirements, identity permissions, and on-chain final settlement responsibilities. The stagnation of the CLARITY Act also underscores the disconnect between administrative attitudes and congressional legislation.
