Solana Surges Amid Broader Market Decline: Is Real Demand Driving Growth?
Solana's recent surge in activity has raised questions about its underlying demand. Despite a broader market pullback, Solana gained around 7% over seven days, while Bitcoin and Ethereum fell by roughly 4.9% and 6%, respectively.
The network saw its highest level of active addresses since February, reaching 4.51 million. Tokenized stock transfers and meme coin trading drove the latest activity spike, with tokenized equity growth on Solana crossing $10 billion for the first time last week.
Speculative trading also played a role, particularly after crypto influencer Ansem announced he would airdrop part of his creator fees earned through his Pump.fun profile. This led to a surge in Solana meme coin trading, with DefiLlama data showing decentralized exchange volume rising from $1.16 billion on June 27 to $2.5 billion on June 29.
The 'bigger story' is that Solana is becoming a go-to chain for real trading activity,' Santiment said. However, the durability of this trend remains unresolved, with tokenized stock volume leaning heavily on exposure to certain stocks and the meme coin jump coming from one influencer event.
