Solana Surges as Dominant Platform for AI-Powered x402 Transactions
Solana's high-speed blockchain network has emerged as the dominant platform for x402 transactions, handling 23.2 million such transactions in just four weeks. This represents a significant share of activity on the protocol, with Solana capturing 76% of all x402 transactions during this period.
According to data from Artemis, Ripple was the next closest network, processing 3.39 million x402 transactions. Polygon PoS and Base followed closely behind, handling 2.05 million and 1.85 million transactions respectively.
x402 is an open payment protocol built on top of HTTP 402, which allows any API or web service to require payment before serving content. This has significant implications for the development of AI agents that need to make independent payments for services such as data feeds, compute resources, and subscriptions.
