Solana Surges Past Rivals in Q4 Crypto Rally
Crypto markets are entering the fourth quarter with renewed momentum, leaving stocks and gold in their wake. Bitcoin (BTC) has broken its worst seasonal pattern by rising around 7% in September, while the S&P 500 barely moved and gold dipped over 6%. This sets the stage for a strong Q4, but which coin will carry this momentum forward? Solana (SOL), XRP, and Bitcoin have all gained significant ground since early summer, with Solana surging approximately 48%, XRP up about 37%, and Bitcoin increasing around 36% over the last 90 days.
Solana stands out from its peers due to its strong ETF inflows relative to its size. In the week ending September 25, U.S. Bitcoin ETFs attracted about $2.4 billion, while Solana funds brought in a record $188 million and XRP funds accumulated around $76 million. This means Solana funds captured about 0.27% of Solana's $70 billion market value, Bitcoin funds acquired roughly 0.14% of Bitcoin's $1.67 trillion, and XRP funds made up about 0.08% of XRP's $95 billion.
Solana also has the smallest decline for 2026, down only 4%, while Bitcoin is down around 27% over the past year. However, Santiment cautions that rising bond yields and high leverage could trigger sharp pullbacks in the market. The Federal Reserve raising rates on September 16 and set to meet again on October 27 and 28 may also negatively impact all three coins simultaneously.
At this point, Solana appears best positioned to maintain momentum due to its strong recent gains and ETF inflows. However, if it sees a week of net withdrawals or drops below $110 (about 7% lower), that advantage could slip away, especially if an October rate hike hurts all three coins.
