Solana Tops Fee Leaderboard as 71% of Blockchains Collect Zero Revenue
The crypto landscape is showing signs of a small number of dominant players, with 71% of 558 tracked blockchains generating zero fees over a 24-hour period on October 3, 2026, according to DefiLlama's chain fees dashboard.
Of the 558 tracked chains, 443 collected less than $10 in fees during the same period, while only seven blockchains cleared $100,000 in fees. Solana led the pack with $1.09 million in fees, followed closely by Tron and Binance Smart Chain (BSC).
Ethereum and Bitcoin, two of the largest names in crypto, landed in fourth and fifth place, with fees of $435,000 and $325,600 respectively. Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network, slipped in at sixth, while Robinhood Chain barely cleared the bar in seventh with $100,900 in fees.
The data shows a concentration of fee activity among a small group of leading networks, with the long tail barely registering. DefiLlama's data updates its fees by chain rankings in real time, and the early October readings confirmed the same basic shape.
For investors, the data offers a useful filter, with fee generation being one of the more concrete signals in crypto. It reflects people paying real money to do something on a network rather than simply holding a token and hoping.
