Solana Upgrades Aim to Outpace Rivals with Faster, Cheaper Transactions
Solana is upgrading its infrastructure to improve performance and reduce costs, which could give it an edge over rival blockchains like Ethereum and Avalanche.
The upgrades, part of Agave 4.2, include reducing storage costs by 90% and increasing transaction sizes threefold to 4,096 bytes.
This could make Solana more attractive for applications that require high-speed transactions, such as trading and payments.
Solana is also working on further reducing slot times from around 400ms to 200ms, which would improve its performance even more.
The upgrades are part of a staged process, with the goal of achieving 200ms slots in the long term. However, this will depend on network stability and block-skip rates.
