Solana V1 Upgrade Doubles Down on Decentralized Finance Capacity
Solana's V1 upgrade has gone live on mainnet, increasing the maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes. This gives developers around three and a half times more space inside a single transaction.
The Solana Foundation notes that this larger format can support workloads that previously couldn't fit into one transaction, including zero-knowledge proofs, large multisignature operations, and some on-chain signature schemes.
The upgrade arrives during a period of heavy network use. Non-vote transactions exceeded 10 billion in the first quarter of 2026, and reached roughly 9.7 billion in the second quarter.
Despite the increased capacity, Solana's ecosystem revenue has already reached $327 million in Q3, up 23.4% from $265 million in Q2. This growth may not be directly attributed to the V1 upgrade itself but gives developers more room to handle complex activity across decentralized finance, stablecoins, and derivatives.
