Solana is gearing up for an upgrade that promises to speed up transactions on its blockchain. The upgrade, called Alpenglow, aims to reduce the time it takes for a payment to become final from 13 seconds to 150 milliseconds.

Alpenglow has been running on a smaller network since April and is now being tested on Solana's established testnet to ensure that the broader group of computers and services can switch together simultaneously without putting users' money at risk.

The upgrade's final launch date has not been set, but it is expected to be completed by early October. SOL, the native cryptocurrency of the Solana network, has declined 6% this year, trading at $116.76 USD currently.
