Solana's Anatoly Yakovenko Sets Ambitious Goal for Perpetuals Trading Dominance
Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has set an ambitious goal for his network to win in all trading, meaning anything related to trading should happen on Solana and grow annually. He wants to see Solana's share of the perpetuals market increase month over month and year over year.
In a Fundstrat webinar published on September 8, Yakovenko stated that he is focused on growth rather than victory, and named the one metric that would prove his goal: the part of the market where Solana is furthest behind. This metric is perpetuals trading, which is currently dominated by Hyperliquid.
Solana has a strong lead in spot trading, with Galaxy Research's quarterly review showing that it held the number one position in decentralized exchange volume for seven consecutive quarters at roughly 30% share. However, spot DEX volume dropped 45% from the previous quarter during the second quarter, and network fees dropped 44%.
The growth on Solana is arriving through tokenized equities, with real-world asset supply crossing $3 billion for the first time in June. Agave 4.2 has begun its phased mainnet activation, carrying the staged reduction toward 200-millisecond slots, and the larger change sits in the next release.
