Solana's Disinflation Proposal Passes with Narrow Margin

Solana's governance cycle has moved past the question of whether SGP-0002 crossed the line, and into a more important question: whether a narrow, high-stakes vote can become a clean consensus change.

The proposal to double Solana's annual disinflation rate was accepted after closing with 176.29 million SOL For, 66.19 million SOL Against, and 20.63 million SOL Abstain.

Validators linked to Kraken and Galaxy shifted toward majority For shortly before voting closed, with Kraken's larger validator recasting 8.92 million SOL from 100% Against to 90.34% For and 9.66% Against, while Galaxy moved from 92% Abstain to 58.36% For.

SGP-0002 asks Solana to double annual disinflation from 15% to 30% while keeping the 1.5% terminal inflation rate unchanged, with the proposal's model estimating about 18.89 million fewer SOL issued over six years.

The vote exposed a broader split between builders and scarcity advocates who wanted faster issuance reduction, and staking operators or yield-sensitive participants concerned about lower nominal rewards.
