Solana's Path to Recovery: Overcoming Competition and Supply Hurdles
Solana's price has been climbing after a 21% weekly increase, but it still needs to overcome significant hurdles to reach its all-time high of $295. To get back to this level, Solana must either regain the same demand that powered its first peak or find new drivers to take its place.
The memecoin trading that drove Solana's earlier success has significantly diminished, and rival networks have entered the same space, further intensifying competition. In addition, Solana's fee revenue has plummeted from a record high of $33 million on January 19, 2025, to around $1 million daily today.
Another hurdle for Solana is its ongoing supply increase, with about 587 million SOL tokens currently in circulation. If the price reaches $295 again, that supply would need to be valued at approximately $173 billion, surpassing the roughly $140 billion valuation Solana achieved at its peak in January 2025.
However, institutional fund money and tokenized stocks may provide fresh demand sources for Solana. U.S. spot Solana funds held around $1.42 billion in assets as of September 17, covering about 10.6 million SOL, while Solana supports about $465 million in tokenized stocks.
