Solana's Price Collapse: A Bear Market or a Buying Opportunity?
The year 2026 has been unkind to Solana (SOL) so far. After entering the year trading near $127, it briefly surged to $146 in mid-January before collapsing through February and into March to trade around $87, a roughly 70% decline from its all-time high of $293 set in January 2025.
The broader crypto market has been under pressure due to geopolitical turmoil, the collapse of the memecoin economy that fueled much of Solana's revenue, and uncertainty about the four-year halving cycle. Bitcoin (BTC) traded near $71,000 as of March 14, down from its cycle high of $126,230 recorded in October 2025.
Altcoins have been hit harder than Bitcoin, with 95% trading below their 200-day moving average, a signal that has historically appeared near bear market bottoms. Over 37% of altcoin projects sat near their all-time lows, worse than the period following the FTX collapse in late 2022.
