Solana's Raydium Dominance Hides Fee Revenue Crisis
Raydium's dominance in Solana DeFi has reached new heights, with the protocol controlling 60% of all DEX trading activity on the network and attracting over 200,000 daily active users. This concentration of user activity dwarfs any competing Solana DEX by a wide margin.
The numbers behind Raydium's grip on the Solana market are impressive: an analyst posting Artemis data on X showed the protocol pulling in more than 200,000 daily active users. Meanwhile, Solana itself is doing just fine by the user metric, with daily active addresses hitting an all-time high of 5.5 million.
However, beneath the surface of this impressive growth lies a more complex story. Solana gas fees have hit a six-month low of $414,000 on September 7, down from a peak of $5 million in March. This collapse is largely due to the decline of Pump.fun, a meme coin launchpad that previously generated a large share of Solana's total transaction fee revenue.
The shift towards TRON's SunPump launchpad suggests that the meme coin speculators who once treated Solana as their playground are moving on. With faster confirmation times and lower transaction costs, TRON is becoming an attractive venue for this high-frequency crowd.
