Solo Miner Beats 1-in-300-Year Odds for $222K Reward
A solo Bitcoin miner operating at 70 terahash-per-second hashrate has beaten 1-in-300-year odds to collect a $222,012 reward. The payout consisted of 3.128 BTC valued at $222,012, including block subsidy worth $221,800 and transaction fees totaling $212.
The miner used CKpool, a solo-mining software service, to find the block in question, number 944,306. According to data from Mempool, this hashrate faces roughly a 1-in-100,000 chance of solving a block on any given day, making it one of the most unlikely wins.
CKpool developer Con Kolivas noted that statistically, a miner at this hashrate would expect to find a block once every 300 years. The miner's setup is equivalent to the output of a single 2019-era Bitmain Antminer S17+ machine and represents approximately 0.0000069% of the Bitcoin network's total estimated hashrate.
