Solo Miner Solves Block 960.804, Wins Estimated $200,000 Reward
A solo Bitcoin miner successfully solved block 960.804 at 23h11 (Brasília time) on Sunday, securing an estimated $200,000 reward ($1 million R). The block yielded 3,15689830 BTC, consisting of a subsidy of 3,125 BTC and 0.032 BTC in transaction fees from the 4,243 transactions it carried.
The miner was operating through CKPool, a service that allows solo miners to direct their hardware to its infrastructure without running a full node, taking a 2% cut on any found blocks.
The chances of solving a block alone are extremely low, with Dr.-ck describing the winner as operating 'a highly variable hash rate, presumably rented' at a peak of 100 PH. This equates to about 0.011% of the network's total hashrate or one block every 64 days.
While highly improbable, solo miners can still successfully mine Bitcoin and solve blocks using various services, including 'amateur miners' with equipment under $1,000 like Bitaxe and FutureBit Apollo, as well as services like Solo CKPool.
