Soluna Acquires Wind Farm to Power AI Data Center Amid Mining Industry Pressures
Soluna Holdings has acquired a $53 million wind farm in Briscoe County, Texas. The facility, known as Briscoe Wind Farm, will supply power to the company's Project Dorothy 3 AI data center campus and generate between $20 million and $24.4 million in annualized revenue.
The acquisition is part of Soluna's efforts to diversify its operations, which was prompted by declining returns from Bitcoin mining. The company shifted towards AI data center infrastructure in February 2024 as the industry trend also moved in this direction.
The average cost to mine a single Bitcoin reached nearly $80,000 in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to CoinShares' report, which estimated that up to 20% of mining companies are currently unprofitable. This has led several mining firms to turn to renewable energy sources to manage costs.
