Share

The South Korean cryptocurrency exchange market has experienced a significant downturn in the first half of 2026. According to reports, operating profits plummeted by 78% to KRW81.6 billion during this period.

This decline is largely attributed to a substantial drop in trading activity, with daily crypto trading volume decreasing by 44% to KRW3.1 trillion. Additionally, customer deposits in won-denominated currency fell by 35%, from KRW8.1 trillion at the end of 2025 to KRW5.2 trillion.

The total value of crypto assets held through South Korean exchanges also saw a decline of 33%, dropping from KRW87.2 trillion to KRW58.9 trillion during the same period.
