South Korea Ties Up with Silicon Valley VCs for Tech Sector Boost
South Korea is deepening its ties with Silicon Valley venture capital firms as part of efforts to boost investment in its technology sector. President Lee Jae-myung has asked six major VC firms, including Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), to increase their investments in Korean startups.
The National Pension Service has signed long-term investment cooperation agreements with the same six firms, creating a framework for joint investment opportunities, information exchange, and strengthened links between Korea's startup ecosystem and global VC networks.
The government is pairing these initiatives with its planned 200 trillion won National Growth Fund, which will support future industries including AI and semiconductors. Market participants expect policy funding, private investment, and overseas capital to enter the Korean venture ecosystem simultaneously.
