South Korea to Tokenize $4.89 Trillion Market by 2027
South Korea is set to become one of the world's leading countries in tokenized securities after announcing plans to allow stocks, bonds, and funds to be issued on blockchain infrastructure from February 2027. The Financial Services Commission has proposed regulations that will enable securities including stocks, bonds, and funds to be issued and circulated in tokenized form.
The framework is part of a broader effort to deepen institutional blockchain use across one of Asia's largest capital markets. The key test will be whether later phases expand to public securities and stablecoin-based settlement.
The first phase will focus on private money-market funds and bonds for institutional investors, trust-based tokenization of unlisted stocks, and publicly offered fractional-investment securities.
