Three major South Korean financial firms reported data breaches on October 28, according to the Yonhap News Agency. Crypto exchange Bithumb disclosed that its in-house mobile system had been hacked, with personal information potentially leaked. The company is investigating whether member data was compromised.
Daishin Securities, a brokerage firm, revealed that around 38,000 pieces of customer information had been exposed. The company stated it had taken emergency measures to address the breach.
Mirae Asset Global Investments, an asset management firm, also confirmed a hacking incident. Authorities are currently assessing the situation, Yonhap reported. Spokespeople for all three firms could not be immediately reached for comment.
The breaches follow a recent wave of cyberattacks targeting 16 South Korean financial institutions, including banks, which have resulted in approximately 100,000 cases of data leaks this month, as reported by the Financial Services Commission (FSC).
Separately, Seoul’s Science Ministry and the Korea Internet & Security Agency have urged website operators to check for PHP flaws. These vulnerabilities allow attackers to execute malicious commands on a server without logging in.
