South Korea's $5T Tokenization Push Could Give Avalanche a Boost
South Korea is set to launch a new framework for tokenization, which will allow the use of blockchain technology to issue and circulate stocks, bonds, and other fund offerings. The Korea Securities Depository (KSD) will serve as the central anchor point to connect the traditional financial system to distributed ledger technology, and is already working to establish a connection to Avalanche's decentralized network.
The framework is expected to start on February 4, 2027, and will initially focus on directing private money market fund (MMF) and corporate bond issuances to institutional investors. Twelve brokerages have signed on to join the KoSTO platform, and KB Securities is integrating the Securitize and Optimism platforms into its existing relationship with institutional investors.
Avalanche has already shown strong interest in tokenized stocks, with significant trading volume before South Korea's framework goes live. In September alone, the altcoin's tokenized stock market cap grew by $245.5 million, with most of this growth coming from Securitize. The last week of September saw over $131.2 million in tokenized stock inflows on Avalanche.
