SpaceX's Massive Bitcoin Holding Debunked as 'Proxy Myth' Reaches New Heights
The SpaceX IPO has been surrounded by controversy since its debut in June, with many claiming that it serves as a proxy for Bitcoin due to its large holding of 18,712 BTC. However, this narrative is not supported by the math.
A closer look at the numbers reveals that the company's $1.18 billion in Bitcoin is only 0.076% of its $1.56 trillion market value. To put it into perspective, a normal 3% daily move in SpaceX's stock would shift more value than the entire coin position.
Honest comparisons also show that Strategy holds more Bitcoin than its own enterprise value, while Tesla's 11,509 BTC is only about 11 basis points of its valuation. The category error lies in treating membership in the largest corporate holders list as equivalent to balance sheet materiality.
