Stablecoin Adoption Surges as GENIUS Act Takes Hold
The passage of the GENIUS Act in the United States has ushered in a significant shift in stablecoin adoption, especially among businesses. Eric Barbier, CEO and Founder of Triple-A, noted that the act had reduced uncertainty around the legal and regulatory status of stablecoins.
The GENIUS Act provides a federal stablecoin framework, while the European Union is implementing stablecoin requirements through MiCA, and regulators in the UK are developing their own regime. Payment providers, banks, card networks, and technology companies are adding infrastructure to move tokenized money alongside conventional currencies.
Stablecoins can facilitate faster settlement, clearer regulation, and more efficient cross-border transactions. They offer advantages over traditional banking systems, including the ability to move funds outside of banking hours and settle across borders without passing through several correspondent banks.
