Stablecoin Balances Plummet by 20% Since 2025 Peak
Stablecoin balances on major crypto exchanges have seen a significant decline in recent times. According to a report, the amount of stablecoins held on centralised cryptocurrency exchanges has fallen by 20% from its peak of approximately $80 billion at the end of 2025 to around $64 billion. This indicates a weakening of purchasing power lurking in the market, as stablecoins generally represent capital that investors hold ready to enter the crypto asset market.
The decrease in stablecoin balances suggests a potential decrease in funds that can be directed into the markets. The study also highlighted the accelerating fragmentation of liquidity in the cryptocurrency market, with larger exchanges experiencing an increase in market share. Binance, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has increased its market share during this period, rising from around 60% in late 2025 to 68.5%.
The decline in stablecoin reserves could affect market liquidity in the short term, while the concentration of capital in major exchanges may have a more pronounced impact on trading volumes and price movements.
