Stablecoin Boost: White House Aide Disputes Deposition Concerns
Patrick Witt, executive director of the White House Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, argued that stablecoins will boost U.S. bank deposits. He claimed that when foreign users exchange local currency for stablecoins issued by U.S.-based companies, the capital flowing in is net new to the American banking system.
The reserves backing these tokens are typically held within the domestic financial system, as most U.S. stablecoin issuers back their tokens with U.S. dollars or Treasury securities.
This counteracts concerns that stablecoin yields will pull deposits out of U.S. banks. Witt's comments come amid a widening dispute between crypto firms and traditional banks over the proposed U.S. CLARITY Act, which aims to establish clearer rules for the sector.
