Stablecoin Market Soars on Increased Settlement Activity
The stablecoin market has undergone significant changes in recent months, according to Coinbase Institutional. The supply of stablecoins, which are pegged to the US dollar, has roughly doubled since January 2024, while entity-adjusted transaction volume has grown fourfold to fivefold.
This growth in activity is attributed to the increasing use of stablecoins for settlement purposes, rather than just as a store of value. Stablecoins are now being used by institutions and businesses to facilitate cross-border transfers, payment applications, and tokenized markets.
The market capitalization of stablecoins has also increased, but at a slower rate than transaction volume. This suggests that each unit of supply is circulating more frequently, supporting the conclusion that stablecoins are becoming increasingly liquid.
