Stablecoin Market Surges with USDC Leading the Charge
The stablecoin market has experienced significant growth, with Circle's USDC adding $584 million to its market cap in just one week. This represents a substantial increase of roughly 24% and contributes to a combined $1 billion rise across top stablecoins USDC, Ethena's USDe, and PayPal's PYUSD.
USDC now accounts for around $74 billion to $77 billion of the total stablecoin supply, making up approximately 24% of the market. Despite trailing behind Tether's USDT in raw supply, which commands a significant 60% market share, USDC dominates on-chain transaction volume, capturing between 60% and 70% of adjusted transactions during multiple periods throughout 2026.
The growth is attributed to consistent demand for dollar-pegged tokens, with Circle's regulatory-backed infrastructure playing a crucial role in maintaining user trust. Ethena's USDe employs a delta-neutral strategy to preserve its dollar peg, while PayPal's PYUSD has experienced notable supply contractions in the past.
In contrast, Zcash's volatility fueled major crypto liquidations after it surged 20% to near-decade highs around $1,023 to $1,051. Short liquidations on ZEC perpetual futures totaled between $34.5 million and $44 million during recent trading sessions, underscoring the leverage built up in the market.
