Stablecoin Market Surpasses US ACH Network in Settlement Volume
The stablecoin market has surpassed the US Automated Clearing House (ACH) network in settlement volume, reaching $7.2 trillion in February 2026 and $7.5 trillion by March of the same year. This milestone marks a significant shift in the way global finance is re-engineered, with the market moving ahead of regulatory frameworks.
The GENIUS Act, enacted in July 2025, provides a crucial legal safe harbor for payment stablecoins issued by permitted entities, clarifying that these coins are neither securities nor commodities. This clarity has enabled institutional capital to invest in long-term infrastructure projects, driving the total stablecoin market capitalization to approximately $307 billion as of September 2026.
Four major infrastructure plays have signaled a shift toward deep integration: Visa becoming a founding validator on Circle's Arc L1 blockchain, SoFi Bank launching SoFiUSD, Binance securing a $100 million equity stake in Circle, and Coinbase partnering with Stablecore to integrate digital asset services into core banking systems.
